Partly. Larger by PPP, smaller at market rates
It depends on the measure. Russia's economy is larger than the UK's by purchasing power parity, about $7.5 trillion against $4.8 trillion in 2026 (IMF). At market exchange rates the UK is larger, about $4.3 trillion against $2.9 trillion.

The answer depends on how economic size is measured. Nominal GDP in US dollars is the usual way to compare economies in global markets, and by that measure the UK is clearly larger than Russia. By PPP, which adjusts for lower domestic prices in Russia, Russia's economy is about 1.6 times the UK's. Most ordinary comparisons use nominal GDP, but neither measure is wrong. The figures are IMF estimates for 2026 and shift with exchange rates and revisions.
- IMF 2026 nominal GDP: UK about $4.27 trillion (5th), Russia about $2.86 trillion (8th).
- IMF 2026 PPP GDP: Russia about $7.54 trillion (4th), UK about $4.78 trillion (9th).
- Nominal GDP converts output at market exchange rates, and Russia's rouble rate swings sharply.
- PPP adjusts for local price levels. It is better for comparing domestic output and living costs, but it does not reflect value in international trade.
- Per person, the UK is richer on both measures: about $61,000 nominal and $68,500 PPP, against Russia's roughly $20,000 nominal and $52,600 PPP.
